  • This a document issued for you by Cultural Care while you were back in your home country. It showed you were eligible to apply for J-1 visa when you were applying for visa.

    Make sure you know where it is at all the times and you need to have it with you when you leave the US. Without this document you won’t be able to enter back to the US.

    Before planing your abroad vacation give Cultural Care call (+1 800 333 6056) to check if your DS-2019 needs to be signed and if you are allowed to travel to the specific country (2nd year Au Pairs).

  • A nonimmigrant visa for people who participate in U.S. exchange visitor programs - students, interns, Au Pairs and more - to share culture and ideas.

    This visa allow Au Pairs to work in teh US and complete the necessary education requirements (6 credits or 72h of education per year) to successfully complete the program.

  • It is a document is send in your name after you entered the US. It confirms you are legally in the US and can re-enter the country.

    You will need to present this document while you are applying for Social Security Number, Drivers License and possibly more places.

    Give the system a couple days to update and then print it for your own records. Make sure you print updated one after any outside of the US travel.

  • A nine-digit numbered issued to you by the US government for people eligible for work in the US.

    It allowed the government to truck your income and determinate how much taxes you own.

    Steps to obtain SSN:

    #1 - Wait unlit your travel informations are updated in the system (I-94)

    #2 - Collect all the necessary documents:

    Application

    → Passport

    → Visa

    → DS-2019

    →I-94

    → Social Security Letter from Cultural Care - you can find it in your app or you can “ask a question” and request it if you have trouble finding it

    Address of the closest office - 480 Dahlia Street Louisville, CO 80027

    Appointment - check ahead of time if you need an appointment or if they only accept walk-ins

    Arrival time - ± 2 weeks after your appointment

    DO NOT SHARE THE NUMER WITH ANYBODY (except your host family if they need it for tax purposes).

    TIP: save the piece of mail with your name and the address on it so you can use it in the future if place asks for “prove of residency”.

    In case of an urgent doctor visit i would recommend going to in-network Urgent Care (you will be left with smaller bill) unless it is life threatening situation then go to Emergency Room (ER).

  • In order to be allowed to drive in the US legally an Au Pair need to bring International Drivers incense from their home country in addition to their official Driver License. Within 90 days from arrival Au Pair needs to get a Colorado Driver License.

    Steps:

    #1 - International Drivers License → you bring them from your country. It allows for faster process and legal driving for 90 days/or until you obtain Colorado Driver License. We recommend doing it as soon as possible.

    #2 - Written Test - passing the test gets you a Driving Permit. Driving Permit is needed before scheduling Driving Test.

    Ways to take the written test:

    Online

    → At the DMV - schedule an appointment (Closest DMV - Westminster, Lafayette, Longmont). Make sure you select “written test” as the type of the appointment.

    #3 - Driving test - rules recently changed and the DMV doesn’t perform your driving test (driving with instructor to check how you drive). IT HAS TO BE COMPLETED TO GET COLORADO DRIVER LICENSE

    Driving school that conduct drive test → ask your host family for help scheduling it. Make sure the driving school you pick won’t make you take a course if not needed. The driving school will give you “drive test completion form” after passing the driving test. You WILL NEED to take it to DMV for the Driving License Appointment.

    → Proof of Address (letter from bank, SSN enveloped

    When you get a paper that says - you have a Colorado Driver License - keep that with you until the actual Driver License comes in the mail.

    • I recommend opening a back account in the bank your Host Family have their.

    • If you are under 25, check if bank offered a Student Account.

    * Student accounts can usually be opened by Chase, US Bank, and Wells Fargo without an SSN (from another LCC).
